The importance of "strength training" in everyday life
Share
For those who follow me on social media, you know that I am a strength training enthusiast: I do it 5/6 times a week, in sessions ranging from 20 to 60 minutes. In addition to running, this has been my routine for 20 years now, and I have created my own method. With or without accessories, these sessions contribute to my balance and well-being, and above all, they are crucial for me every day, for several reasons:
1. Improved Posture and Balance
Strengthening core muscles (abs, back, etc.) improves posture and balance. Good posture helps reduce chronic pain, especially in the back and joints, and helps maintain a stable body throughout the day.
2. Reduced Risk of Injury
Stronger muscles provide better support for joints, thereby reducing the risk of injury, whether during daily tasks like lifting objects or simply walking. This is particularly important as we age, as muscle strength tends to decrease with age.
3. Increased Functional Capacity
Muscle strengthening improves the ability to perform daily activities (carrying groceries, climbing stairs, getting up from a chair, etc.) more efficiently. This allows you to remain more independent, especially as you get older.
4. Improved Metabolic Health
By building muscle mass, your basal metabolism increases, meaning your body burns more calories at rest. This can help maintain a healthy body weight and prevent metabolism-related diseases like type 2 diabetes.
5. Strengthening of the Heart and Lungs
Although often associated with strength exercises, strength training also improves cardiovascular health, especially when combined with high-intensity exercises. This helps improve blood circulation, lung capacity, and heart health.
6. Reduced Stress and Anxiety
Physical activity, including muscle strengthening, releases endorphins, which are feel-good hormones. This helps reduce stress, anxiety, and even promotes better sleep.
7. Prevention of Sedentary Lifestyle Diseases
With modern lifestyles, many people are less active. Muscle strengthening combats the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle by improving circulation, maintaining bone density, and reducing the risks associated with obesity, osteoporosis, and other chronic diseases.
8. Improved Self-Confidence
Having a stronger, fitter body not only improves physical health but also self-perception and self-confidence. Feeling good in your body positively influences your daily state of mind.
In summary, muscle strengthening is not just about aesthetics or athletic performance; it has profound benefits for physical and mental health and plays an essential role in daily quality of life.
